CORRECTION to the April Western Horseman article on building a Hay Feeder:
In Step 1, the line "Attach the third 3/4 inches from one end" should read "Attach the third 48 3/4 inches from one end." Sorry for any confusion this may have caused!
Additionally, a few readers have contacted me with concern about the possibility that horses might chew the wood. This is indeed a valid concern for horses that are so inclined. Personally, my horses have never shown a desire to chew the hay feeder. If your horses are known to be wood chewers, my first advice would be to make sure they have access to plenty of high-quality hay, especially in cold or wet weather, to assess their diets for vitamin/mineral deficiencies, and to make sure they are not bored. If all these requirements have been met and they still want to chew wood, then my best advice would be to not build this particular feeder. ;)
